The Trump administration is actively discussing with them the possibility of providing military support to Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq, CNN claims.

Thousands of fighters from Iranian Kurdish armed groups are active in the Iraq-Iran border area, especially in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Since the war began, many of these groups have issued public statements indicating imminent military action and urging Iranian military forces to rebel.Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been carrying out sustained attacks on Kurdish groups, claiming to have used dozens of drones to target the fighters on Tuesday.

According to a source familiar with the plan and a senior official in the Kurdistan Regional Government, CIA support for Iranian Kurdish groups began months before the war began.A senior Iranian Kurdish official said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump spoke with Mustafa Hijri, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI), one of the groups targeted by the IRGC.

The senior Iranian Kurdish official told CNN that Iranian Kurdish opposition forces are expected to participate in a ground military operation in western Iran in the coming days.“We think there is a big opportunity for us now,” the source said, clarifying the timing of the operation. The militants are expecting the US and Israel to support the operation.

According to a report first reported by Axios, two US officials and a second source familiar with the conversation said that President Trump also spoke by phone with Kurdish leaders in Iraq on Sunday.The conversation focused on the ongoing US military operation in Iran and how the US and the Kurds can work together as the operation progresses.

Any attempt to arm Iranian Kurdish groups would require the support of Iraqi Kurds, so that weapons could be smuggled in and Iraqi Kurdistan used as a base for attacks.

A senior official in the Kurdistan Regional Government expressed his fears, saying, “It’s very dangerous, but what can we do? We can’t fight the Americans. We’re very scared.”

According to a person familiar with the discussions, the plan is for Kurdish armed forces to engage Iranian security forces and keep them engaged. This would allow unarmed Iranian civilians in major cities to escape and avoid a repeat of the massacres of last January.
