70th Everest Day is celebrated today. On May 29, 1953, on this day, the late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and the late Edmund Hillary first set foot on the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.

The Day is marked on May 29, each year in commemoration of the first successful human ascent of the world’s highest peak. Two climbers Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary had set a world history by reaching atop of the peak on May 29 on 1953.

In Nepal, the Day is celebrated on Jeth 15 in the lunar calendar each year as the Sagarmatha Day and this coincides with the Republic Day as well.

Hillary died on January 11, 2008 after 40 years of the passing away of his fellow climber Sherpa (9th May, 1986).

Phu Dorjee sherpa is first Nepali to scale the Everest on 20 may 1965 . Who died on 1969 .

Japanese, Junko Tabei was the first woman to climb Sagarmatha. She scaled it on May 16, 1975. Pasang Lhamu Sherpa is the first Nepali woman to climb the world’s highest peak. She made history successfully climbing it on April 22, 1993.
